About Tanzania Prison Service (TPS)
Tanzania Mainland Prisons Service (in Swahili Jeshi la Magereza) is the army of the Tanzanian government, the responsibility of this army is to take care of all types of prisoners and manage their rehabilitation. It was officially established as a full-fledged Government Department on 25 August 1931. Before that date, the Army was functioning under the Police Force. [1] This army is headquartered in Dodoma, and is under the supervision of the Ministry of Interior.
The Prison Service when it was established was called the Prison Department where its activities remained the colonial ones of torture of prisoners and hard work regardless of whether it is beneficial for them or for the Nation. The 1990s established its vision and responsibility according to the principles and standards set by the National and International.
Eligibility criteria to join Tanzania Prison service
The following are eligibility requirement to apply Tanzania prison service job vacancy;
– Applicant must have Form four level of education
– Applicant must have age between 18-25
– Applicant must have passed Tanzania National Service that means must have JKT certificate
– Applicant must have height ranging from 5’7 for men and 5’4 for women
– Applicant must be Tanzania citizen
– Applicant must not be marry or married
